Jaq Belcher: Aligned - Sit, Breathe, Slowdown, Relax
Kirk Hopper Fine Art presents the new solo exhibition, Jaq Belcher: Aligned: Sit, Breathe, Slowdown, Relax. The title is both a reference to the desired state of being that arises from her practice and a simple instruction for those who encounter the work. Belcher’s work is founded in a contemplative process of reduction and repetition. Belcher investigates her own personal and spiritual understanding of frequency, consciously placing importance on the effect of every individual amendment to the surface of the paper, creating a three-dimensional landscape of sacred geometry through the symbolism of the seed form and emphasis on the power of concentration.
The 12 pieces presented, return to the simplicity of the two cut form, a seed shape known as the vesica piscis. Created with single sheets of paper and an Exact-o knife they are a hybrid between drawing and object. The artist considers them primitive blue prints of alternate states of being. Fields of energy intended to interact with those who stand before them.
The exhibition centers around an installation titled Beyond Home. The artist will complete a site specific, 9 x 9 foot floor drawing using 69,993 hand cut paper seeds that she has collected from works made in the last 15 years.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through May 21.
